Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 to the Rescue
I need to introduce you to the “thing”. Gadget motivation at its finest! I originally bought the “thing” on a Black Friday sale for hubby as a Christmas surprise. And then I couldn’t stand it and bought another at the sale price for myself.
I’m not a hooked into social media, phone toting kind of gal. Rather the opposite. Phones always ring and distract me and I hate that. So I carry a pre-paid Tracfone for emergency use and it is turned off unless I need to use it. I buy a year card and that always gives me more minutes than I ever come close to using, so it’s cheap, under $10 per month.
But I admit to smartphone envy. Except I don’t want an expensive data plan. Period. Hubby and I have been keeping our eye on the 7” tablet wars, but my experience so far with tablets has been that they are not friendly to my eyes and they are heavy.
So, while perusing Black Friday deals at Amazon.com this past holiday season, I stumbled on the Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0. A WiFi device, but small, portable, had the kind of amenities found on full tablets, i.e. front/rear cameras, video recording, GPS, Bluetooth, microphone, speakers, yeah, all that and Android Market access. Further, it had a few more pixels to the inch than the current crop of 7” tablets! Encouraged by the glowing reviews I made a very uncharacteristic TOTAL IMPULSE BUY!
And guess what? The extra bit of resolution really helps my eyes. The Samsung is my mini tablet, or as I call it, the “thing”. I have a thing! I *LOVE* THE THING!
The Samsung got me in the mood to track weight in December, even though I then lapsed during the holidays. I found an app called Lose It (there’s also a website) and I’m using the app for tracking my food. It’s great, because it does not require an internet connection to search foods. There are tons of health, fitness and diet apps out there. An app smorgasbord, if you will. Who knew? I know *I* was clueless!
I can even blog with it. That Libra weight graph experimental post prior to this one? From the “thing”. I like Libra, it’s like the Hacker’s Diet site I use, only as an app.
Now if I can only break my new Fruit Ninja and Train Conductor 2: USA habits!

Haha. Really glad for you. Just stay away from Angry Birds!

I do have Angry Birds Seasons on the Samsung, but I haven’t played it that much. It’s more of a game for when I am in a problem solving mood, since it gets tricky to figure out how best to deploy the birds to get rid of the piggies. I do like problem solver games occasionally, but I’m more into just for fun games on the whole. I also have Fruit Ninja Puss N’ Boots version and love that too. And I enjoy Flick Golf a lot.
